Understand these examples here are only that, examples. There are many ways to actually fall into these catagories.
Roleplaying:
In roleplaying, participants adopt and act out the role of characters, or parts, that may have personalities, motivations, and backgrounds different from their own. Roleplaying, also known as RP to some, is like being in ani mprovisational drama or free-form theater, in which the participants are the actors who are playing parts, and the audience.
What this means is that a roleplayer, a person who plays a role of a character he/she created, acts as that person in an environment that is limited by the imagination of the group that is an audience, the cast, and the crew at the same time. The roleplayers basically: write stories of what their character is doing, what he/she/it is wearing, learning, etc.; read stories from other roleplayers; respond; and enhance her/his ability of a roleplayer. A roleplayer can also be called an author, for a roleplayer writes a story for others to read.
God Modding:
"God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try.
-It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission.
-It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them. (refer to autoing)
-It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as Ichigo, then you cannot have Ichigo say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission, other than what was already stated in the roleplay.
The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot.
This is a prime example of God Modding:
Toushiro: Attempts to slash Leon.
Leon: Dodges attack, uppercuts Toshiro, launching him into the air. Using an ability called Demon's Dance, Leon slashes up Toushiro and destroys his blade, and finally kills him after listening to him beg for several minutes.
Much of God Modding is Auto Hitting.
Auto Hitting:
The term is best connected to God Modding for you are making the storyline in your favor. Auto hitting refers to the action in which cannot be affected by other members within the roleplay and is greatly looked down upon. This is the action in which the effects of the action taken are stated without allowing of others to respond to them.
Example:
Leon: drew his sword to slay his opponent, Ichigo.
Ichigo: With a quick movement swung his own blade and contacted with Leon's knees slashing the legs off.
As you can see, Leon can't dodge the attack that Ichigo had used for the effects were already stated and therefore cannot be unchanged.
